Dying To Live is a Christian Hardcore Metal band from Chattanooga Tennessee. Founded January, 7 2005, the original lineup included: Mike Knicely - rhythm guitar/vocals, Corey Thatch - Lead Guitar/vocals, Alex Bowman - Bass/Keyboards, Michael Haynes - Drums/Percussion. Dying To Live's lyrics deal with various religious and political topics: from the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, to issues like abortion and same-sex marriage. Their style is mostly tight aggressive Hardcore Metal, but they occasionally venture into the realm of Punk, Screamo, and even Worship.
In September of 2006, after about eight months together, Corey Thatch decided to pursue a musical career with another band closer to home in McDonald Tennessee. Corey is still very active with DTL, as the band is often called. He attends DTL practices and shows and even plays with them live on occasion. After Thatch's departure, Drew Clement was recruited to fill the lead spot. "This is sweet!," says the lead axeman of DTL, "I'm so stoked to get to play music with these guys!"
Dying To Live is currently hard at work writing and composing for their first DEMO release. "God has taken us so from were we started out a year ago," says frontman Mike Knicely, "I can't wait to get into the studio and record these awesome sangs God has given to us. I'm so blessed with awesome band mates. It's crazy to know that we came together in such little time to write these songs."
DTL credits bands like Living Sacrifice, Norma Jean, Underoath, and Demon Hunter with their inspiration. "We grew up listening to these bands and now their music has become such a huge influence on what we are doing," says Knicely.
Even through working on their new Demo DTL remains focused on their original mission, to reach young people with the truth of Jesus Christ with heavy music. "That was the goal from the beginning, without Christ we wouldn't be recording this DEMO and I wouldn't even be alive," says Knicely, "Whatever God's got for us, it's gonna be huge. He's in control of the direction this band takes, regardless!"
